Pigmented Skin

Age Spots or hyper-pigmentation are usually caused by sun exposure. UV stimulates melanin in the skin which causes the skin to 'tan'. If too much melanin is produced the results are patches of dark spots.

Another cause can be found when a woman becomes pregnant and the hormones cause a similar reaction on the face. The key to solving pigmented skin is to Cleanse well, Exfoliate, Correct problem and Protect. Tip: Avoid wearing perfume on the skin as it reacts with the sun. Spray your perfume on your clothes or hair instead.

Treatments

1. Microdermabrasion - Diamond Tome uses a wand with crushed diamonds on the tip in a variety of strengths i.e fine, medium or coarse. The wand is scraped carefully against the skin, dead skin cells get dislodged and a suction action takes the away from skin. Skin is much clearer and smoother after this treatment.
2. Chemical Peel - A 40% Glycolic Chemical Peel is used with great success in getting rid of pigmentation. You must be using MD Continuous Renewal for two weeks prior to this treatment so that your skin is used to Glycolic Acid. Your skin is cleansed then prepped and then the Peel Gel is applied carefully and left on a short time for your first peel. Skin appears much clearer and pigmentation should disappear after a course of these treatments depending on how much damage has been done.
